Where Did I Go?

Tue Dec 25, 2007, 10:48 AM
Over the last year I changed my focus from Digital Art to Music. The GIMP graphics program in Linux had changed so much, I was unable to continue what I was doing. Yes, that was very disappointing. But I remembered what I did when I was 13-16 years old; I was a Drummer in the Sea Cadets Drum Corps. So last January I bought a set of Conga Drums and started getting into "the groove". I started playing with a couple of acoustic guitar players, who kept bugging me to play "real" drums. I was just so happy playing the Congas, that I really didn't have much motivation to try a drum set.

Well over 6 months the two of them decided to get a used (old) Digital Drum set and set it up to see what I could do with it. It was so old that there was no Cymbal sounds in that set, so my one friend had some real ones hidden away and brought them out too. Needless to say, I did very well on them. But they sounded terrible, both the Cymbals and Drums. The drums sounded too artificial and the Cymbals were the opposite of what I prefer. They were heavy and dry sounding. So, the first thing I did was start replacing the Cymbals to what I liked. After I had a whole Cymbal set bought, I decided I should buy a Drum Set.

I bought the cheapest new drum set I could find, and it didn't take too long before I wanted to upgrade to a better set. Since last April until now at Christmas I have bought and traded drum sets to get I stunningly beautiful Ludwig Fusion size kit that stays at a studio. I have a killer Rock size Network Drum set that sounds as good as the Pearl VLX Series drums at $600. instead $1,000. for the Pearl set. I hate paying for names. I also have a very small Acoustic Kit to drag around to "Open Mic's" when I feel like going out. The Conga set I had, I used as a trade-in on one of the drum sets because, even though they looked beautiful, they were also bottom of the line drums too. I just got the nicest sounding and looking Bongos I could find, for Christmas. In February I want to buy a new $1,000. set of full size Floor Congas, 3 in total (Quinto, Conga and Tumbadora). I love playing Congas sometimes even more that conventional drums, because they are so "Primal"! Bang, Smack, Smack, Bang, Bang; Gawd I love it......

So that's what happened to me. I moved from Art to Music. I have 2 websites for music now on [link] and [link] The BandMix site has some music samples on it too.

I wish all my fellow artists the best and I will leave this website open for as long as DeviantART allows. Good Luck, Goodbye and Good Fortune. Goodbye my friends.
